The trilogy felt like a rushed attempt to set up the Sequel Trilogy by throwing away all logic.
Palpatine's plan to kill the Empire for failing, while taking notes from Hitler allowing Germany to die for failing, seems stupid. Daala is probably a worse leader than Sloane, but we got to see how she got where she did. We also had Daala who eliminated the Warlords and united the Empire. The short story she got later on made her somewhat interesting/ competent but as the main character for moving the Empire into the First Order/ unknown regions? In the EU we had Thrawn: a highly decorated and competent leader chosen by Palpatine to be among the top twelve.
Rae Slone is head the Empire and she's not that good of a character. My issues with the trilogy lie mainly in the plot. The writing was horrible, but Marc Thompsons narration and performance made a world of difference in terms of making the trilogy readable. I read the first book and heard the audiobook version for the other 2. Question about Thrawn, or Who's your favorite character?
